„Give me Shelter“ ist ein direkter Verweis auf das menschliche Grundbedürfnis nach Schutz und Geborgenheit. Die Arbeit nutzt das Spannungsfeld zwischen Material und Motiv, um auf die Ambivalenz von Schutzmechanismen hinzuweisen. Der getuftete Zaun aus Wolle steht für die Sehnsucht nach Geborgenheit und Zugehörigkeit, macht aber gleichzeitig sichtbar, wie brüchig und unvollständig gesellschaftliche und persönliche Schutzräume oft sind.
Der direkte Bezug auf das Motiv des Shelters, also des Unterschlupfs in seiner einfachsten Form – die Schutzhütte, die Grenze, der Raum, die Decke – verweist zugleich auf gesellschaftliche Ausschlussmechanismen wie Migration, Obdach und das Gefühl des Fremdseins. All diese Referenzen bündeln sich hier im ambivalenten Symbol des Maschendrahtzauns. Ein künstliches Geflecht, das Räume abgrenzt und einhüllt, wird in Wolle gebettet. Die textile Umsetzung eines Zauns, der eigentlich hart und kalt ist, verweist auf die Zerbrechlichkeit und Durchlässigkeit von Schutzmechanismen. Die Wolle wirkt warm und schützend, der Zaun hingegen ist durchlässig und bietet keinen echten Halt. Dadurch wird das Abwehrsymbol in ein Objekt umgewandelt, welches Geborgenheit suggeriert, diese aber nicht wirklich einlösen kann.
Auch die Größe und Hängung der Objekte erinnern stark an umhüllende Textilien unseres Alltags, wie Kleidung oder Decken, die auch immer einen Schutz vor äußeren Einflüssen bieten.

“Give me Shelter” is a direct reference to the fundamental human need for protection and security. The work uses the tension between material and motif to highlight the ambivalence of protective mechanisms. The tufted fence made of wool stands for the longing for safety and belonging, but at the same time reveals how fragile and incomplete social and personal spaces of protection often are.

The direct reference to the motif of shelter—in its simplest form: the hut, the boundary, the space, the blanket—also alludes to social mechanisms of exclusion such as migration, homelessness, and the feeling of alienation. All these references are brought together in the ambivalent symbol of the chain-link fence. An artificial mesh that separates and encloses spaces is here embedded in wool. The textile implementation of a fence, which is usually hard and cold, points to the fragility and permeability of protective mechanisms. The wool feels warm and comforting, while the fence remains permeable and provides no real support. In this way, the symbol of defense is transformed into an object that suggests security, but cannot truly deliver it.

The size and the way the objects are hung also strongly recall the enveloping textiles of our everyday lives, such as clothing or blankets, which always offer some protection from external influences.
